There are currently two types of canine influenza (dog flu) affecting dogs in the United States, H3N8 and H3N2. H3N8 was first discovered in dogs in 2004. H3N2 was first noted in 2015. Canine influenza causes respiratory signs (coughing, sneezing, lethargy, loss of appetite) and is highly contagious from dog to dog.

We now have a new combination vaccine available that provides protection against both of these canine influenza strains. Dogs not vaccinated against the new strain should have a series of two vaccines a month apart. Please call to schedule an appointment to protect your dog from these serious infections.
